After beginning his career as a software developer at both startups and F500 companies, Tom spent a decade as venture capital investor in early-stage software, technology, and Internet startups, serving as a General Partner in four funds. Most recently Tom spent 5+ years as CEO of an e-commerce startup which he lead through a strategic M&A process culminating in a successful exit to a private-equity backed national omnichannel retailer with a combined 150 employees and low-mid 8-figure revenues.

Mobile Operational Work: Until recently, Semil worked on mobile product (iOS and Android), marketing, and distribution for Swell, built by Concept.io (acquired by Apple). Semil has worked at two companies in operations in the Valley, Rexly (acquired by Live Nation) and Votizen (acquired by Causes), and has been a consultant to IFTTT on their mobile apps and platform, and was an EIR for six months with Javelin Venture Partners in San Francisco.
Venture Capital Work: In the past, Semil has been a formally paid consultant to a variety of venture capital firms on Sand Hill Road assisting with deal evaluation, due diligence, marketing, and special operations &amp;amp;mdash; those firms have included General Catalyst, Kleiner Perkins, Draper Fisher Jurvetson, Trinity Ventures, Javelin Venture Partners, Bullpen Capital, GGV Capital, and a few others.
Media Work: Previously, Semil was an official contributor to TechCrunch from January 2011 to April 2014, where he wrote a weekly column every Sunday at 10am PST and created and hosted TV show called &amp;amp;ldquo;In The Studio,&amp;amp;rdquo; which ended after 70 consecutive episodes. Today, Semil writes on Haywire and currently produces interviews as &amp;amp;ldquo;Sunday Conversations,&amp;amp;rdquo; which airs bi-monthly or so [iTunes] [SoundCloud].
